Southeast Alaska is very hard on fly
fishing gear. Over the years we have
used several different products and
have weeded out those that just don't
cut it. We are very proud of the lines
that we currently carry. They are both
durable and of the highest quality.
The Ketchikan area gets up to thirteen feet
of rain every year. It is very important to
keep dry while fly fishing. We have found
that the Simms line of jackets and waders
are the most effective in keeping the
fishermen dry. All of our guides are
currently using G3 waders. The five layer
design is puncture resistant, which is a
concern when walking through the
undergrowth and deadfall. We all agree that
they are by far the most durable breathable
wader on the market.
Because it is so important to dress in
layers, our Simms jackets work as our
outer shell. We carry Hot Chilly's line of
insulating layers. Hot Chillys are very
comfortable and warm. Many of their
products are designed to wick the
moisture away from the skin which helps
the angler stay warm. When moisture
builds up against the skin it has a cooling
effect. Wicking materials pull the moisture
off the skin and allow it to evaporate
through the breathable layers. We
recommend that our clients dress in
layers.
One of our most
frequently asked
questions at the shop
is what flies to bring.
We are happy to put a
fly collection together
and will ship it to you.
Some of our fishermen
find it useful when we
send them a couple of
our favorite patterns
so that they can tie
several of them up, for
their upcoming trip.
We are happy to do
that also.
